At the March meeting of the Perry School Board, they approved the school calendar for the 2018-19 school year.

Superintendent Clark Wicks says the District has a calendar committee that meets a few times a year, and they focus on meeting all state schedule requirements. He says there isn’t a lot of wiggle room for districts when it comes to calendars, especially when it comes to the start date and required holidays. The Perry school year will start on August 23, 2018, and the last day will be May 29, 2019. The one event not yet set out on the calendar is Homecoming Week, which won’t be known until later this month.

Wicks emphasizes, though the calendar is important, it’s what the school does with the days on the calendar that counts. “Just like all schools, we’ll get the same number of days or hours in there. But that’s going to be the span of what we have to do. And it’s not necessarily when you start and when you finish, but it’s what you do in between that makes the difference.”

Wicks adds, there are snow days built into the calendar to accommodate for when classes are canceled due to weather. This year they’ve had two more snow days than they originally allocated, so school will end two days later than planned.
