The Stuart Police Department responded to a suicidal distress call late Tuesday night. According to the department’s Facebook post, the individual barricaded himself in a hotel room in the 1200 block of South Division Street. The subject claimed he was armed with a handgun and made threats that he was going to harm himself and Officers.

After approximately two hours of negotiating, the subject came out of the room without incident. He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines for psychiatric treatment. The Stuart Police Department thanks the assisting agencies at the scene. The Adair, Guthrie, and Dallas County Sheriff’s Offices, and the Iowa State Patrol assisted at the scene.
