Dallas County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach recently received a grant from a program aimed at encouraging Hispanic families to try fishing.
The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation (RBFF) and the George H.W. Bush Vamos A Pescar Education Fund announced grants totalling nearly $160,000 to 15 fishing and boating programs, including Dallas County Extension. The grant was awarded through the Iowa Department of Natural Resources, which will provide Extension matching funds for the grant. Jeff Jackson, Executive Director for Dallas County Extension said the funds will help them reach out to Perry’s hispanic families, which account for approximately 40% of the City’s population. He would like to show families that fishing is a low-cost activity that is fun and engaging for the whole family, while also providing food for themselves.
This is the third year the RBFF has provided grants through the Vamos A Pescar Education Fund. To learn more about the program, click the link below.
