A new non-profit organization can now loan out free durable medical equipment.
The Loaner Closet is operated by a board of directors and is located in Jefferson resident Matt Gordon’s home at 504 West Monroe Street. Gordon co-owns Affinity Homecare in Grand Junction, and says they have durable medical supplies such as: wheelchairs, hospital swing beds, walkers, crutches and other items. People who can’t afford to pay for the supplies can rent them for free on a short-term basis. He adds that if someone needs a wheelchair temporarily following a surgery or a similar incident, they can come and check one out. They also have wheelchairs for different body types.
Gordon talks about why he wanted to start the Loaner Closet.
“Well through Affinity Homecare we’ve seen a need in the public, just someone to loan our durable medical equipment. So (we’ve) seen a need for loaning out wheelchairs, walkers and things like that at no cost. We’re trying to fill that need.”
Gordon points out that they will also take durable medical equipment donations as well. He says the items don’t necessarily have to be in working condition, because they can use the parts from the equipment to maintain other equipment.
