A late winter season snowfall is causing slick road conditions Tuesday.

The Iowa Department of Transportation is reporting that state roads in Dallas, Greene and Guthrie counties are partially snow-covered. County and city roads are also covered with snow. Motorists are reminded to give plow crews plenty of room to clear the roads of snow and to “not crowd the plow.” The National Weather Service reports periodic blowing snow and reminds motorists to take extra time to reach their destinations safely.

Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams doesn’t recommend passing when there’s several inches of snowfall on the roads.

“I would definitely not suggest passing, especially if we get two to three-inches of snow. If it’s warm or it’s slushy, the slushy and heavier snow will cause you to lose control faster. In the center or in between the two lanes always has more snow than the actual driving lanes do, which will cause you to lose control if you’re going to pass somebody.”

A winter weather advisory remains effect for Greene and Guthrie counties until 3pm today.
