Guthrie County will see a contested race for County Attorney. Current Fremont County Attorney Brenna Bird officially announced her candidacy for the office. The 41-year-old is currently maintaining her own private law practice and is seeking the Republican nomination.
Bird was born in Guthrie Center and is originally from Dexter. She was appointed in November of 2016 to serve the remainder of the current term in Fremont County. She also served as Chief of Staff and Council for Congressman Steve King and Counsel to Governor Terry Branstad. She received her undergraduate degree from Drake University, and her doctorate from the University of Chicago Law School.
Bird is married and has one son. She will challenge incumbent Mary Benton, who has expressed her intent to run for the Democratic nomination.
