International Women’s Day is recognized every year on March 8th, but there will be an early celebration of the holiday tomorrow at La Poste in Perry.
The Women’s Day Coffee event will be a celebration of women’s accomplishments and contributions to society. There will be five speakers at the event, each of them women with ties to Perry. There is no cost to attend and no registration is required. The event will run from 10 a.m. – noon, and everyone in the community is welcome.
International Women’s Day was first recognized by the United Nations and celebrated around the world in 1975. Each year, it serves as a way to celebrate women and raise awareness of gender inequality. In 2011, March was also declared Women’s History Month in the United States.
