The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular budgeting session Thursday.
The Board discussed the benefits and disadvantages of joining the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC) in opioid litigation. Assistant County Attorney Tim Benton reminded the Board that, since the lawsuit is civil in nature, the County would have to prove damages by pharmaceutical opioids. Any money won would have to go to programs combating opioid addiction in the county. The Board and Benton agreed that there was not enough evidence to support opioids damaging the County. The Board moved to not join the litigation.
The Board also finalized plans to use the old Environmental Office for storage and a possible break room. The meeting concluded with a discussion on the 2018-2019 fiscal budget. The public hearing for the County budget will be Tuesday at 9am in the Public Meeting Room in the Guthrie County Courthouse.
