The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors will meet in regular budgeting session today. The Board will discuss the possibility of entering opioid litigation with the Iowa State Association of Counties (ISAC). The lawsuit stems from certain pharmaceutical companies misrepresenting the safety of using opioid medication.
Adair and Dallas counties are among those participating in litigation, however, Guthrie County Assistant Attorney Tim Benton doesn’t believe the county will benefit from participation. Benton recommended declining participation due to the fact that most of the drug crimes in the county stem from methamphetamine, rather than opioids. There is no cost to join the litigation, and the next negotiation session is Tuesday.
The meeting will end with a discussion on county property projects and the 2018-2019 fiscal year budget. The meeting begins at 9am in the Supervisors’ Room in the Guthrie County Courthouse.
