The filing period for candidates of state and federal offices to submit their paperwork for the upcoming primary elections is now open.
The period began on February 26th and the deadline to get on the ballot is March 16th at 5 p.m. For county offices, the filing period will open March 5th and run through March 28th. Candidates in Dallas County can either file their nominating petitions and affidavits of candidacy with the Office of Secretary of State Paul Pate, or with Dallas County Auditor Julia Helm. The primary election will be held on June 5th to decide who will be the democrat, republican, and libertarian candidates in the November general election. Candidates must receive at least 35% of their party’s vote in the primaries to be placed on the November ballot. If no candidate achieves 35%, one will be selected by delegates at the party’s convention.
