Clel BaudlerThe recent shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida has resulted in Americans across the country looking for solutions. Iowa District 20 Representative Clel Baudler believes the vast majority of those solutions are wrong.

Baudler believes placing trained, armed guards in schools is the best way to combat mass school shootings. He referenced Iowa superintendents’ ability to place armed guards in schools and emphasized they should be able to conceal carry a firearm. He also addressed arming teachers or other staff members. “If they have the physical and the mental capacity to do that, I don’t see anything wrong with it. But I would want them to have the weapon on them, not locked up in some drawer or vault in the principal’s and superintendent’s office. When things go bad they go bad very quickly and you have to have access to your firearm, be ready physically to use it and be ready mentally to use it.”

Baudler also believes there were several signs and indicators missed in preventing this particular shooting from happening. To hear more on this and other topics from the current legislative session, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
