Grow Greene County Gaming Corporation is pledging $4.5 million towards a new athletic and arts center as part of the Greene County School District’s plan for a new high school and regional career academy.
As a non-profit organization, GGCGC’s vision is to positively grow the county for families and businesses to thrive. Their mission is to serve as a catalyst to leverage and coordinate resources, while providing opportunities for leadership and vision. Board member Peg Raney tells Raccoon Valley Radio that the total cost for the entire project is $35 million, which includes the athletic and arts center, along with retrofitting the old high school as a new middle school. She points out that their contribution of $4.5 million is in addition to the bond measure of $21,480,000.
“The difference between $21.48 million and $35 million is what we’re trying to help cover. And with this pledge, we just felt like if we could pull that out, that was an area that there were concerns about people financing that through taxpayer money. So we listened and we’re able to realize that this is something that’s going to help our county grow.”
Raney adds that the money will be set aside for the school district, should the bond measure pass. GGCGC will also hold its annual grant award ceremony on the same night as the bond vote on April 3rd.
