Iowa Representative Chip Baltimore was recently sentenced to probation for a January incident.

According to online court documents, the District 47 Representative from Boone was sentenced to one-year of probation for each charge of an OWI and possession of a firearm while under the influence. Baltimore was arrested in Ames on January 19th by a police officer who observed Baltimore’s vehicle swerving in his lane on Highway 30. Baltimore submitted to a field breathalyzer test, in which he blew 0.147-percent, nearly twice the legal limit of 0.08-percent.

After Baltimore was arrested, his vehicle was automatically impounded. Upon taking inventory of the vehicle, police officers found a Smith and Wesson handgun under the driver’s seat. Baltimore has a permit to carry, but due to being charged with an OWI, the permit becomes invalid.

Baltimore pled guilty to both charges on February 16th and the deferred judgement was handed down Tuesday in Story County District Court. He was also ordered to pay civil penalties.
