The window to apply for the 2018 Raccoon Valley Radio Business and Broadcasting Scholarships is now open.
Every year, RVR offers area seniors the chance to apply for one of two $250 scholarships, as long as they plan to major in either business or broadcasting in college. Students in Dallas, Greene, Guthrie, Adair, and Madison counties are eligible for the scholarships. RVR General Manager John McGee says when going over the applications, he’ll be paying special attention to the path the students took to arrive at their decision to go into business or broadcasting. He’ll also weigh their leadership qualities and level of activity at their school.
McGee emphasizes the scholarships are a joint venture between Raccoon Valley Radio and area businesses to invest in the future. “It’s one of our ways to give back. We partner with our businesses to actually do this. We will get started here the first part of April with what we call our ‘Senior Salute’ program. And that’s where we recognize, by name, area seniors from all of the area schools. The dollars that businesses invest in that, the dollars that we take in from that, is what we give away this scholarship with. And you know, it’s really those businesses that are also helping to get that information out.”
Scholarship applications are available from each school’s guidance counselor or online at RaccoonValleyRadio.com. Completed applications can be dropped off at or mailed to the KDLS studio in Perry, or given to your guidance counselor to submit. The deadline for submissions is April 15th, and the winners will be announced during the individual school’s awards presentation in May.
