If you’re looking for an opportunity to start hunting in Iowa, one of the first steps is to take a Hunter Safety Training Course.

The Greene County Conservation Board is sponsoring an upcoming course on February 27th, March 1st and 3rd. The first two classes will take place at the Milwaukee Road Depot in Jefferson from 6:30 to 9pm. The final class on March 3rd will be at Slininger Woods from 8am to 3pm. Participants are asked to bring a sack lunch with them to Saturday’s class.

Individuals must pass the training program before they can purchase a hunting license. Participants will receive a certificate of completion, which is valid for life. Anyone born after January 1, 1972 is required to take the training before purchasing a hunting license. The minimum age requirement for the class is 12-years-old.

To register, go online to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources website and click the Hunter Education link, then search for Greene County. The class is free. Call County Conservation Director Dan Towers with any questions at 386-5674.
