While she never led the Charger girls in scoring, senior Mady Smith was always an overall leader on the court. Smith finished her basketball career at ACGC with 326 points and 262 rebounds. She also led the Chargers in assists this season with 35.
Head Coach Aaron Dose saw her as a utility player this season, and appreciated her flexibility and leadership on the court. “(She) started off the year at wing and then we had to move her to point just because we were struggling at that position. She took the leadership role on that. It helped us a lot. Hard working kid.”
Smith enjoyed her four years in Guthrie Center, and hopes her teammates who return next year, will continue to have fun on and off the court. She is a three-sport athlete, competing in volleyball and track as well. Her plans are to study interior design and journalism at Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) after graduation.
