It was a successful week for several Dallas County competitors at the 2018 State Wrestling Tournament, including two State Champions.
Perry senior Zach Stewart claimed the class 3A state title at 138 pounds, while Adel-DeSoto-Minburn junior Andrew Flora was victorious in the class 2A championship match at 113 pounds. It was the first state title for both wrestlers. Stewart defeated junior Deville Dentis from Des Moines East, and Flora beat freshman Nathaniel Genobana from Centerville.
Other Perry wrestlers also found success in the class 3A tournament, but fell short of their championship aspirations. Junior Kaleb Olejniczak placed second at 126 pounds, losing to senior Brody Teske of Fort Dodge in the finals, while senior Zachary Thompson took fourth at 120 pounds. Additionally, Woodward-Granger sophomore Cody Fisher placed second in class 2A at 195 pounds, falling to senior Bryce Esmoil from West Liberty in the finals.
