The Iowa State University Theater Department is opening a new play this weekend, and there will be some familiar Dallas County faces featured on stage.
The play is an adaptation of “Iphigenia,” based on the ancient Greek play by Euripides. ISU senior Noah Allyn, who is a Liberal Studies major from Perry, will be performing in the chorus, while also holding the role of Rhythm Captain. Margaret Smith, a freshman from Minburn double-majoring in Performing Arts and Public Relations, will also be in the chorus. The play is being directed by Amanda Petefish-Schrag. She feels even though it was written thousands of years ago, “Iphigenia” is still topical in today’s society as it raises provocative questions about the nature of power and responsibility, and what we’re willing to sacrifice for power.
The play will open this week, running Friday through Sunday the next two weekends. The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday matinees will start at 2 p.m. The performances will be in Fisher Theater on the ISU campus. Tickets are $18 for adults, $16 for seniors, and $11 for students. They can be purchased online through Ticketmaster, at the ISU ticket office at Stephens Auditorium, or at the door.
