A Jefferson man was sentenced to prison for a September incident.

According to court documents, 36-year-old Derek Eugene Ott was sentenced to prison for a period to not exceed five years, after pleading guilty to an amended charge of a Class D Felony for third degree burglary.

The charge stems from an incident on September 9th when Ott had his vehicle searched following a traffic stop at 190th Street and I Avenue by a Greene County Deputy. Ott was arrested for driving while barred and no proof of insurance. Ott’s passenger Jake Ball was arrested and charged for burglary and illegal possession of prescription drugs. The deputy found stolen tools in the trunk of the Chevrolet Impala, in a shipping box that was addressed to the victim.

Court documents also show that Ott’s prison sentence was to run consecutively with two other cases where Ott was charged with violating his parole. The parole violation documents show that the parole would be switched back to the original sentence, which each was for a two-year prison sentence. Ott was additionally ordered to pay a law enforcement surcharge, restitution and court costs.
