Jefferson City Council 2_13The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night in regular session.

The Council approved an easement agreement with the Interstate Power and Light Corporation on the south side of Washington Park. The agreement is a six-foot easement request from the Interstate Power and Light Corporation due to upgrades to their power poles.

The Council also approved a plat of survey in the Greene County Development Corporation east business park to reduce the number of lots and a resolution supporting a project in the north alleyway in the downtown square. The project “Arch Alley” was presented by local artist David Williamson, in conjunction with Jefferson Matters: Main Street, to implement several architectural designs from some of the arches on the buildings in the downtown area. Work to start on the project will start later this year and anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2019.

The Council discussed purchasing an Ultra High Pressure Truck for the city’s fire department. The department is wanting to purchase the truck this fiscal year and start making payments in the next fiscal year that starts on July 1st. The Council will investigate options for financing and will consider approving the request at their next meeting.

Finally during open forum, Jefferson VFW Post Commander Don Ihnken requested the Council to reimburse them for cleanup costs from a backed up sewer system. Ihnken claims the issue was from the City. City Administrator Mike Palmer said he would check with the City’s insurance company to see if something could be worked out.

James Wasson will step up as post commander in June. Wasson talked about replacing the roof on the VFW Hall and are applying GCCF grant and asked for a letter support for the application. Mayor Craig Berry agreed to do so.
