January was National Human Trafficking Awareness Month, but St. John’s Catholic Church in Adel believes any time is a good time to spread awareness of the serious issue.
This Sunday, they will host a free educational program called “Help Recognize and Stop Human Trafficking.” Ruth Buckels from Adel Youth and Shelter Services will lead the event, sharing how human trafficking can be combated. The trade is thriving in Iowa, but Buckels says it can be curbed through raising awareness, recognizing the signs of trafficking, and knowing how to respond should you see it.
The presentation will be held from 2-4 p.m. this Sunday in the parish hall of St. John’s, located one mile south of Adel on Highway 169.
