Greene County’s girls’ basketball team led Grand View Christian (Des Moines) 37-30 with five minutes remaining in the third quarter, then went ice cold as the Thunder topped the Rams, 54-43. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com. The Rams had just two free throws for the next 12 minutes of playing time while the Thunder went on a big scoring run to improve to 7-13. Coach Dean Lyons’ Rams completed the regular season at 5-15.
Seniors Laurin Lyons and Onica Delp each scored 10 points and senior Samantha Hardaway added nine on Senior Night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. Greene County had 18 turnovers and made 17 of 53 field goal attempts. They were six of eight shooting free throws and one of the field goals was a three-pointer.
The Thunder went 19 of 55 from the floor, but nine of the field goals were from three-point range. Abbey Boggess had 20 points to lead the way. GV Christian was 11 of 16 from the free throw line and they turned the ball over just nine times.
