Guthrie County State Bank (GCSB) recently announced a promotion to a vice-presidential position. GCSB has promoted Mark Cates to Vice-President and Branch Manager at the Panora location.

Cates was hired at GCSB in October of 2015 after experience as a personal banker at Wells Fargo. His promotion is credited in part to his completion of the Iowa Bankers Association Consumer Credit School, a rigorous one-week program, in 2016. Chief Executive Officer and President Mike Underwood is especially appreciative of Cates’ positive attitude and ability to contribute new ideas.

Cates, an Ida Grove native, graduated from Simpson College with double majors in business management and sports administration. He is active in the Panora community, coaching youth soccer and baseball. Cates is also the Vice-President of the Panora Regional Industrial Development Enterprise (PRIDE). He and his wife Jana have three children.
