The Greene County High School Music Department will be very busy the next couple of days.
Today is the rescheduled Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Choir Festival to be held at Greene County High School. The event was originally scheduled for Monday, but was snowed out. Choir Director David Heupel says he’s excited to host the state-wide festival once again.
“The (Iowa) High School Music Association will send out a request to host one of their events. And I haven’t requested to host it the last couple of years, but (Executive Director) Alan Greiner called and said, ‘Could you do it.’ He’ll look over the map and find where, we’ve got a hole here and we need to get this area. He’ll call and ask if we could do it. This is probably, maybe the fourth time that we’ve hosted that.”
Performances will begin at 2:50pm with the final performance being Greene County’s Jazzatonics at 9:20pm in the auditorium. Admission is $6 per person and $3 for students. Schools that will be in attendance include: Audubon, Nodaway Valley, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Nevada, Winterset, Adel-DeSoto-Minburn and Perry.
Then tomorrow night is the music department’s Winter Pops Concert at 7:30pm again in the auditorium. The band, treble and concert choirs will perform 1980s music. Plus the Jazzatonics will perform their contest songs. The concert is free and open to the public.
