West Central Valley Wildcat

The last West Central Activities Conference contest of the season takes the West Central Valley basketball teams on a short road trip tonight. The Wildcats pay a visit to Earlham tonight for a league varsity doubleheader versus the Cardinals. Earlham swept West Central Valley in their first conference meeting of the season, winning the girls game, 74-48 and the boys game, 88-44.

The West Central Valley girls basketball team (8-11 overall) lost in their latest conference game Friday at home against Des Moines Christian, 61-37. Junior Joelle Grubbs tallied a team-best 16 points for West Central Valley, converting seven of her 10 free throw shots. The Cardinals come into tonight’s contest winners of their last four games, including a 60-23 triumph over Woodward-Granger Friday at home.

The West Central Valley boys basketball team (2-18 overall) will attempt to end a seven-game losing streak tonight against Earlham. The Wildcats scored a season-high 72 points in an 18-point setback Friday against Des Moines Christian. Sophomore Kaleb Badker highlighted West Central Valley with a team-best 19 points and four rebounds. The Cardinals will try to return to winning form tonight against the Wildcats after suffering a 64-48 setback Friday night versus Woodward-Granger.

The varsity doubleheader starts at 6 p.m. with the girl’s contest, and the boys will follow from Earlham High School.
