The Perry City Council convened Monday evening in regular session.

During the City Administrator’s report, Sven Peterson mentioned several projects, including: the Sally Port, which is nearly finished and actually housing police cars at the moment; the 16th Street sewer, for which the boring is now complete and the first house is connected; and the Willis Avenue Bridge, which they’ll have a pre-construction meeting for soon. During old business, the Council approved extending the bid deadline for the soccer complex project until February 14th, as they only received two competitive quotes at the first deadline.

In new business, the Council approved a cash contribution of $1,000 from the City’s stormwater fund towards the Beaver Creek Watershed Management Authority for the purpose of matching funds for a grant. Next, they approved an application for the Iowa Department of Transportation’s sign replacement program for several signs throughout the City. The final two pieces of business related to the Parks and Recreation Department. The Council approved allocating $200,000 from the local option sales tax funds to be used for repairs to the McCreary Community Building, as well as a retaining wall on the in-town trails. They also accepted a bid of $73,393.55 from Central States Roofing for work on the McCreary Center’s roof. There were four bids received for the project, all of which were well under the estimate.
