The annual fundraiser for the Sierra Community Theatre in Jefferson starts tomorrow.
The theater is showing five classic movies for free, with several sponsorships from businesses and organizations. The first movie, “Bridge on River Kwai” will have showings at 2pm and 7pm on Wednesday, February 7th, with an additional showing at 7pm on Thursday. Then on Friday at 7pm and again at 2 and 7pm on Saturday is “The Sound of Music.” The next movie, “Charlotte’s Web” will be shown Sunday at 2, 4:30 and 7pm. Then at 7pm on Monday February 12th and again at 2 and 7pm on Tuesday is “Cool Hand Luke.” Classics Movie Week wraps up with “Love Story” on Wednesday with a 2 and 7pm showing, followed by a 7pm showing on Thursday.
Manager Dustin Gustoff says they will accept free-will donations during Classics Movie Week. All the proceeds will be used to remodel both of the upstairs restrooms. Last year, funds were used to purchase a new popcorn popper, which Gustoff points out allows them to make popcorn healthier by using coconut oil.
“The new popper is straight coconut (oil). It has less of a problem with burning the oil. We tried it and it tastes fantastic. I would eat an entire bag of it and I don’t eat even half as much from the old popper.”
Gustoff thanks the community and sponsors for supporting Classics Movie Week.
