We have new information on the incident that has closed part of Highway 30 in Greene County.
Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams tells Raccoon Valley Radio that a semi-tractor trailer was hauling hogs and ran a stop sign on S Avenue and struck a fuel tanker carrying 8,300-gallons of fuel. The wreck caused the fuel to start burning on the highway. Williams says the Greene County Hazmat team has been brought in to control the burning gasoline. He adds that the collision also caused a third pickup truck to get hit. Two drivers were taken to Greene County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries and the third driver is uninjured.
Motorists are urged to stay clear of the scene, while authorities are working on the situation. Crews have been on scene since 9:53am Monday. According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, a detour route has been set up. The route is on County Road P-33, to 170th Street, to Highway 4.
