Greene County SheriffA three vehicle crash on Highway 4 in Greene County Monday morning results in two injuries.

According to Greene County Dispatch, a call came in at 10:24am about the crash near the 2200 block of Highway 4, south of Jefferson. Greene County Deputy Kirk Hammer says a New Cooperative semi-tractor trailer was heading south on Highway 4 and had slowed to take a right-hand turn into their station. A semi-tractor trailer hauling hogs was behind the New Cooperative semi and failed to see the vehicle slow to make the turn. The hog semi clipped the New Cooperative semi and bounced it into the northbound lane, striking an Iowa Department of Transportation plow truck.

Hammer tells Raccoon Valley Radio the driver of the hog semi suffered a non life-threatening head injury and was taken to Greene County Medical Center by Greene County Emergency Medical Services. The driver of the DOT truck suffered minor injuries and the driver of the New Cooperative semi was uninjured. The tractor of the hog semi was totaled, while $15,000 in damages was done to the DOT truck and $3,000 in damages to the New Cooperative semi. The names of the drivers are unknown at this time. Hammer notes that citations are pending completion of their investigation.

The Greene County Sheriff’s office, Jefferson Police Department and Greene County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene. Highway 4 was back open to traffic by 1pm.
