The high school wrestling season continues for at least one more week for five wrestlers on West Central Valley Wildcats squad. The Wildcats began their postseason run in the Class 1A Section 2 tournament at Missouri Valley, grappling athletes from Audubon, Exira-EHK, Logan-Magnolia, Missouri Valley, West Harrison, and Woodbine. West Central Valley didn’t register a single sectional champion but advanced Drew Belden (132), Tye Joint (145), Carson Wadle (182), Riley Algreen (195), and Alex Wells (285) to next week’s district tournament with second place finishes. All five suffered their only loss of the day in the sectional championship match, and none of the Wildcats had to wrestle in a true second-place match. West Central Valley now prepares for this weekend’s Class 1A District 1 tournament at AC/GC High School in Guthrie Center. The top two wrestlers from each weight class will qualify for the Class 1A State Wrestling tournament at Wells Fargo Arena February 15-17 in Des Moines.
