The Van Meter Bulldogs were victorious over the ACGC Chargers in both girls and boys matchups last night in Van Meter.
Bulldog junior Emily Roberts couldn’t miss from beyond the arc, nailing seven three-pointers enroute to a season high 23 points and a 58-30 win for the Bulldogs. It was a six point lead after one, but Van Meter used a 10-0 run in the second to pull ahead for good. Sophomore Natalie Barth contributed eleven points in the victory. Jadeyn Carrick and Savana Fuller led the Chargers with eleven and ten points respectively.
The Charger boys had an even tougher task against the second best team in the state in Class 2A. After 21 seconds, the Bulldogs got out to a 4-0 lead, prompting Head Coach Jake Mohling to call a time-out. The barrage of Bulldog offense continued as they sustained a 30-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. Van Meter finished off the night with an impressive 70-20 rout. Blake Fryar led all scores with thirteen, while four other Bulldogs scored at least eight points. Will Byars led all Chargers in scoring for the first time in his career, finishing with four points.
The girls fall to 2-18, while the boys drop to 3-17 on the season. Both teams will wrap up the regular season at home against the Woodward-Granger Hawks on Tuesday.
