Greene County will be in a new mental health region at the beginning of the next fiscal year on July 1st.
Supervisor Vice-Chair Dawn Rudolph says the Central Iowa Community Services (CICS) mental health region governing board voted last week to accept Greene County as one of their members. The move comes after the Supervisors voted to withdraw from the Heart of Iowa Community Services (HICS) region this past October. The reason why the Supervisors wanted to make the move is because the HICS region had issues with transparency and the services provided weren’t being utilized to their full benefit.
Rudolph points out that they will continue to be with the HICS region until June 30th, which means mental health and disability services will continue to be provided.
“So there’s no lack of services. We still have all of the coordination services and everything. None of our county people will be without services at all. They just transfer from one region to another. Nobody is left out there without any services.”
Rudolph says the final steps are to have the Board agree to the 28E agreement with the CICS region, as well as other logistical issues before Greene County can be a full voting member on July 1st.
