A homeless man is in police custody after attempting to steal a Mediacom van near Dexter Monday morning.
Dallas County Sheriff Chad Leonard tells Raccoon Valley Radio, 24-year-old Antonio Montano Grajales was seen at the Casey’s in Dexter after his vehicle had apparently broken down elsewhere in town. A Mediacom employee parked his van and entered the store, and when he came back out the vehicle was gone. He immediately called the Sheriff’s Office, and the stolen van was seen shortly after by a deputy in the area. Leonard says the deputy executed a traffic stop, and Grajales submitted to arrest without incident.
He is being charged with first degree theft of a motor vehicle valued over $10,000, a class C felony. He was taken to the Dallas County Jail, where he is currently being held on $10,000 bond. Grajales had his initial appearance in court on Tuesday, and will have his preliminary hearing on February 9th. Raccoon Valley Radio will bring you more information on this case as it’s made official.
