The baskets were open for business, to say the least, Friday night in Urbandale. Four players, two Chargers and two Lions, posted career highs as the Des Moines Christian Lions swept the ACGC Chargers in West Central Activities Conference doubleheader action.
The girls game got off to a rocky start for the Chargers. The girls mustered just two points from Kennedy Young in the opening sixteen minutes of gameplay. However, towards the end of the third quarter, sophomore Olivia Laabs finally found the hot shooting, scoring a career high 15 points. Laabs was perfect from the field, shooting 5-5 with two made three-pointers and three free-throws. However, Lion Miah Potratz also scored her first points of her career, leading DMC with 17. This is the first season for the junior, who attempted just three shots prior to the 49-26 victory over the Chargers.
Not to be outdone, a Charger and a Lion also posted career highs in scoring in DMC’s 81-51 victory in the boys game. ACGC Junior Noah Nelsen drained five three-pointers enroute to a career high 19 points. Senior Caden Wardyn also scored eleven, and is just one point away from 500 in his career. However, the night belonged to Lion Sophomore Brady Hewitt. Hewitt posted a career high 28 points in the victory.
The Charger girls drop to 2-16 and the boys fall to 3-15 on the season. The teams come back home on Tuesday to challenge the Earlham Cardinals.
