This Friday, rivals will collide in Perry as the Adel-DeSoto-Minburn basketball teams come up for a boy-girl doubleheader. However, the games will have even more significance, as it’s “Coaches vs. Cancer Night.”

There will be several fundraisers attached to the game, with all proceeds supporting the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life” program. On Thursday, the staff in the district will be able to take part in a “Jeans Day” fundraiser. During the game, the coaches will be wearing sneakers in support of “Suits and Sneakers” for cancer awareness. Additionally, fans from both schools are encouraged to “Whiteout to Block-Out Cancer,” by wearing white in a unified show of support.

In between the games, Kirk VanKirk will give a speech, and there will be a “48-Second Drill” fundraiser. There will also be a special at the concession stand, with the SkillsUSA $6 Meal Deal. The meal consists of a pulled pork sandwich, chips, and drink, and $1 from every sale will go to “Relay for Life.” Finally, people directly affected by cancer will receive special recognition, including guests invited by members of the basketball team.

The girls game will start Friday at 6 p.m., with the boys game to follow. The doubleheader can be heard live on FM 99.7, AM 1310 KDLS.
