Gilbert won a girl/boy basketball doubleheader from the Greene County teams on Friday night on the Tigers’ home floor. The final in the girls’ game was 54-24, while the boys’ game was much higher scoring at 79-75.

Greene County fell to 5-10 overall and 2-8 in the conference with the loss for the girls. The Tigers improved to 8-8 and 5-5. Greene County led 4-3 four minutes into the contest before the Tigers went on a 22-1 run and the home team led 25-7 at intermission. Sarah Hinners had 17 points and Emma Bulman 15 for Gilbert. Laurin Lyons scored six points for the Rams and no one else had more than four. Greene County made one of 24 first half shots and they made only five field goals for the game. The Rams were 13 of 29 shooting free throws.

The boys’ game saw the Tigers led 23-19 after one quarter, but the Rams were up 38-37 at halftime. Early in the third quarter, Greene County led 40-39 before the Tigers went on a run of 11 unanswered points to make it 50-40 and the Rams never got closer than four points the rest of the way. Greene County fell to 8-5 overall and 7-3 in the HOIAC while Gilbert improved to 6-7 and 5-5. The Tigers were 12 of 30 from three-point range and 23 of 49 overall from the floor with 11 turnovers. They made 13 of 26 foul shots. The Rams were 12 of 15 from the free throw line, all in the first half. Coach Chris Nelson’s team was 26 of 51 overall from the floor and 11 of 21 on three-pointers with 14 turnovers.

Seven players in the boys’ game scored in double figures. Gilbert was led by Tommy Doyle with 19, followed by 16 from Will Turner, 12 for Matt Barragy, and 11 by Tony Terrones. The Rams had 58 points from the trio of Trey Hinote (22), Joe Towers (18), and Lance Hughes (18). Hinote made six goals beyond the arc with three from Towers and two by Hughes.
