A state tournament type tuneup started Thursday night in Liberty City for the Panorama wrestling team. The Panthers paid a visit to Southeast Warren High School for a nonconference quadrangular against grapplers from Interstate 35, Southeast Warren/Melcher Dallas, and Van Meter/Earlham.

Panorama opened the evening with a pair of dual victories against host school Southeast Warren/Melcher Dallas (61-10) and over Van Meter/Earlham (40-33). The Panthers scored 42 points off of six forfeits against Southeast Warren/Melcher Dallas, registering two technical falls, a pinfall, and a decision. Panorama and Van Meter each won seven matches a piece with the Panthers edging the Bulldogs in bonus points. Panorama had five of their seven wins end in pinfalls while Van Meter registered one win in seven different categories including pinfall, technical fall, forfeit, major decision, decision, injury default, and an ultimate tiebreaker.

The final dual of the evening saw Panorama square off against Class 1A No. 10 Interstate 35. The grapple ended with Interstate 35 edging Panorama, 43-29. Panorama scored on two pinfalls, two decisions, a technical fall, and one forfeit. The dual featured two of the top teams in the Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Dual rankings in Class 1A with Interstate 35 rated No. 6 and Panorama No. 16.

The results push Panorama’s dual record to 16-2 overall. The Panthers return to the mat tonight in the annual John Harris Invitational in Corning. First matches are set for 4 p.m. at Southwest Valley High School.
