A trio of guests will be coming to the Perry Public Library soon, for a book talk called “Spectrum of Faith.”
This Tuesday, Drake University Professor of Philosophy Timothy Knepper, as well as Carol Spaulding-Kruse and Bob Blanchard will preside over a discussion on their book, “A Spectrum of Faith: Religions of the World in America’s Heartland.” The book is a collaboration between The Comparison Project, the Drake Community Press, and the Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC). It contains photos of people from many religions peacefully coexisting in Central Iowa. Library Director Mary Murphy says it’s eye-opening to see how rich the culture is in the area. “We aren’t so insular in the Midwest. We have a diversity of culture. People think we’re just very uniform out here in the ‘Hinterlands,’ as they would call us on the east coast. Or the flyover states. And I think we have a rich culture, and we should celebrate it!”
There is no cost to attend the event, and no registration is required. It will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in the library’s large meeting room. Copies of the book will be available for purchase, with all proceeds supporting the DMARC food pantry.
