The Greene County basketball teams lost in Jewell on Friday night to South Hamilton by scores of 55-40 in the girls’ game and 64-56 in the boys. The girls have dropped to 4-8 on the season and 1-6 in the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference, while the boys are 6-4 overall and 5-2 in the league. The Rams hope to reverse a downward trend when they host Saydel (Des Moines) in Jefferson on Friday, Jan. 12. Coach Dean Lyons’ girls have lost seven of their last eight, while Coach Chris Nelson’s boys have dropped their last three contests.
Both Greene County teams will be working to improve before hosting the Eagles. One of the areas the coaches and players will be attempting to get better at is long scoring runs by the opposition. The Rams led the girls’ game 22-14 before the Hawks took control by scoring 19 unanswered points. A similar situation took place in the boys’ game in Jewell. Greene County led 19-7 after one quarter before SH scored 17 unanswered and out scored the Rams 26-6 in that quarter.
Friday’s games with the Eagles will be broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
