Now that there’s some snow on the ground, winter enthusiasts can enjoy some outdoor fun.
Greene County Conservation Director Dan Towers says there are a number of different winter outdoor activities for people to enjoy.
“The bike trail (Raccoon River Valley Trail) actually, we do allow snowmobiles on that and there’s always a fair number of snowmobilers that do buy their trail pass, just for that. Cross-country skiing, Spring Lake (Park) has been kind of popular for that. Some of the road systems we don’t plow and that gives the cross-country skiers something to go on.”
Other activities include ice fishing and sledding. Towers points out that when checking the areas for ice fishing, to make sure that the water is frozen enough to ice fish from. As far as sledding, there is a sledding hill at Seven Hills Park. However, it is only open if there is at least four-inches of snow, which there isn’t for this weekend.
