acgcAs a sophomore last season, junior Jadeyn Carrick had just 18 points. She nearly equaled that in a career best performance last night. Carrick dropped 17 points and added 11 rebounds to lift the Chargers past the Woodward-Granger Hawks for their first win of the season, 37-31.

The Charger girls were down five at the end of the first quarter, but tied it up, 20-20, going into the locker room. In the third quarter, Carrick scored eight consecutive points and the Chargers never looked back. Junior Lauryn Embleton also buried two three-pointers and Olivia Laabs tallied six points, seven rebounds, and three steals in the victory. The moment wasn’t spoiled for Sierra O’Brien’s return to the court. Although O’Brien wasn’t able to score, head coach Aaron Dose told Raccoon Valley Radio it was a relief to at least have her out there again.

Unfortunately, the boys were unable to carry the winning vibes in their match. The Hawks were without their leading scorer Keith Braunschweig, who was sidelined with a concussion sustained in a recent practice. However, it didn’t seem to matter as five Hawks scored at least seven points. Junior Sam Peterson led all scores with 15 points. Sophomore Bryce Achenbach was also on triple-double patrol, ending the night with nine points, nine assists, and four steals.

Charger senior Caden Wardyn led all Chargers with 15 points. Bryce Littler also nailed three three-pointers in the loss. Both squads have a quick turnaround, as the Chargers head to Exira for a non-conference doubleheader tonight against the Spartans.
