With the trend of recent polar punches, prom season seems far away. However, a local non-profit geared toward helping girls find prom dresses will open this weekend. The Prom Closet in Coon Rapids will open for its second prom season the next three weekends in January. It is located at Ascension Lutheran Church and offers dresses, shoes, purses, and accessories all at no charge.

Last year Organizer Dona Tuel was surprised by just how many girls found the perfect outfit. “We sent out more than 60 dresses last year. It’s kind of funny and ironic, every girl except two found dresses. It’s kind of like the loaves and fishes, there just always seems to be the right dress.”

The closet has plenty of sizes and styles to choose from, with many of the dresses being hardly used. The closet will be open January 6th, 13th, and 20th from 9am-2pm. Dresses and accessories can also be donated to the program at various locations around the area. To hear more from Tuel, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
