Two Greene County High School students will perform in an honor band concert tomorrow.

Juniors Jordan Davis and Linsey Kitt each qualified for the South Central Iowa Bandmaster Association (SCIBA) Honor Band. Both Davis and Kitt had to audition to be selected for SCIBA and Davis talks about her initial reaction when she found out she qualified.

“When I found out, I was actually kind of tricked. I had Linsey Kitt and another student Emily Hofer come in and tell me that they didn’t accept anybody (on my part). And I just kind of a face on them like ‘Ah shucks, I can make it next year.’ But then they showed me a photo with my name on it, and I became extremely happy, because I’m really excited to be doing it.”

It is the first time Davis and Kitt qualified for SCIBA Honor Band in high school. Each made it in middle school previously. Kitt describes how it feels to make it for the first time in high school.

“Well I think I’ve definitely grown a lot as a musician. I’ve gained a lot more skills for the instrument. I care a lot more about what I’m doing, it’s not just something that I’m doing just because.”

Davis is first chair, first part for bass clarinet and Kitt is fifth chair, first part for flute. The concert will take place at Ankeny High School on Saturday.
