The Jefferson Parks and Recreation Department is offering a couple of programs for young children.
JPRD Director Vicky Lautner says ReCharge Wednesdays recently started back up. The program is for first through eighth graders. Lautner talks about the free program, where the kids can go following early dismissal Wednesdays from the Greene County School District.
“We get the kids from school, it’s around 2 o’clock. We play with them, give them a healthy snack, and we’re usually done around 3:30(pm). We do pick the kids up at the middle school and walk them over to the (Greene County) community center. If there isn’t school on a particular Wednesday, we don’t hold the class.”
McFarland Clinic sponsors the program and no registration is necessary.
Two other programs that will start soon include: Tot Shots and Mini Basketball Cheerleading. Tot Shots is for kindergarteners and it will take place on Saturdays from 10:30 to 11:05am from January 6th through the 20th at the Greene County Elementary gym. Cost for the program is $10. Basketball Mini Cheerleading is for pre-kindergarten through fifth graders. Classes will be held at the elementary school gym on Tuesday, January 9th and Thursday, January 11th from 3:30 to 5pm. Participants will get the opportunity to perform their routines at halftime of the home varsity girls’ basketball game on Friday, January 12th. Cost to participate is $10 and the class will be led by Ann Ostendorf and the high school winter cheerleaders.
