School is back in session in the Greene County School District after a break for the holidays. Winter sports teams have been practicing for a week in preparation for the 2018 portion of their respective schedules.
Coach Dean Lyons’ girls’ basketball team (3-7) will be the first of the varsity teams for the Rams to be in action this week. They’ll host Woodward-Granger in non-conference play tomorrow night in the middle school gym in Jefferson. The Hawks enter this week with just two victories. Friday night the Rams play in Jewell vs. 3-8 South Hamilton, followed by a home game Jan. 12 vs. a Saydel (Des Moines) team the Rams already own a victory against.
Senior Samantha Hardaway was asked about facing teams with similar records to the Rams as opposed to going against several highly rated teams, which the Rams did just prior to the break. “Well, it definitely pushes us in practice to work harder and get those teams because they are teams we can catch and play with. It gives us a boost to work harder and keep practicing, because there’s a chance.”
Coverage of Thursday night’s varsity game on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com starts around 7 p.m. with tipoff at approximately 7:30 p.m.
