Dallas County Conservation has recently done a bit of remodeling at the Forest Park Museum to increase the center’s eye appeal.
Museum Curator Pete Malmberg says they had an employee leave in 2012, and with no plans to replace the position, the unoccupied desk has remained vacant ever since. “So we had this empty desk sitting in the visitor’s center. We kind of decorated it, but you know an empty desk walking into the visitor’s center just is not the most appealing thing. Especially if it’s no longer looking occupied. So we took it out, and we put the turtle exhibit there, and a number of other natural history exhibits. Some hands-on things for kids, they can do color forms on the walls now. There are some posters available people can take with them. They can get much better access to our fish, our turtle, and we’ve got a bird display too.”
Malmberg believes the remodel makes the visitor’s center much better to look at, and he’s hopeful the materials they added will encourage people to come back more often.
