The Iowa Department of Education recently released its 2017 School Report Cards.

The Guthrie Center School Board met in regular session Monday.

The Board reviewed achievement data from the Iowa School Report Card for the 2017 school year. While the two elementary schools showed an accurate picture of academic performance, the junior high and high school assessments don’t include students in the Adair-Casey School District. Guthrie Center High School was ranked as “Acceptable.” Superintendent Steve Smith described his thoughts regarding student achievement so far this school year. “When we take a look at how we’re finishing this semester and student achievement, our kids continue to do well. We have high proficiencies in our classes and our ACTs continue to climb. So the effort and the work teachers are putting into that are certainly beginning to pay off for students and for families.”

The Board then discussed implementing fees for public use of the weight room and gym. The proposed fee per year for using both areas was $100. The Board is expected to take action on the topic at a future meeting. The Board ended the meeting with a review on board policies, including staff cell phone usage and social networking.
