With some snow activity that recently happened in our listening area, now is a good time to review the City of Jefferson’s snow ordinance.
Police Chief Mark Clouse says the City’s snow ordinance goes into effect anytime there is at least one-half-inch of snow. When the snow ordinance is in effect, Clouse says parking is prohibited on the downtown square from 2 to 6am so that city crews can clear the roadway of snow.
“That also gives the business owners an opportunity to push the snow from the sidewalk into the street for the city crews to come back by again and remove that snow as well. Any vehicle that is in violation of the snow ordinance on the square, will most likely be towed versus a citation. That is mainly for those folks (city crews) to be able to do their job.”
As for the rest of the City, Clouse points out that once the snow ordinance is in effect, it remains in effect for at least 24-hours until the snow event is over and the roads are cleared from curb to curb.
