Much like schools grade students on their performance, the Iowa Department of Education regularly grades how the schools themselves are performing. The 2016-17 statewide school report cards were recently released, and according to the state, the Perry School District has some work to do.
Perry High School had on overall grade of “Needs Improvement,” while the elementary and middle schools were both rated “Acceptable.” Each school performed well in the proficiency category, which means a school’s success at meeting benchmarks in reading and math, as well as attendance and staff retention, and the high school scored very high on graduation rate. However, according to the report cards, each school is well behind the curve in college and career readiness and closing the achievement gap for minority students.
