A reminder: though consumer fireworks are currently allowed for sale and use in the State of Iowa, the City of Perry does not allow them to be shot at this time.
With the recent law legalized fireworks in Iowa during the Fourth of July, Christmas, and New Years holidays, cities were able to create their own ordinances regarding their use. Most cities outright prohibited fireworks use in city limits, but Perry allowed them to be used during certain hours on July 4th. However, the City’s ordinance didn’t allow for them to be used at this time of year. The City Council will continue to evaluate fireworks and how they’re used in Perry, though at the moment anyone found shooting off fireworks in Perry can be issued a $500 fine.
The state law allowed fireworks to be sold and used from December 10th through January 3rd. However, unlike the similar time frame in the summer, fireworks can only be sold from permanent structures during this round. Because they’re less available, law enforcement believes fireworks violations shouldn’t be as common at this time of year.
